6 Best Speakeasies in Scottsdale for Creative Cocktails & Sophisticated Flair

Dining | Publish Date: April 25, 2025 | SWSS Staff

Are you planning a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, and looking for somewhere sophisticated to grab a drink that offers a different vibe than the upbeat clubs and cocktail bars in Scottsdale? If so, consider taking a step back in time to the Prohibition Era by visiting one of the best speakeasies in Scottsdale!

Even though the consumption of alcohol isn’t illegal like it was in the 1920s (to our relief!), the secrecy, intrigue, and mystery of covert prohibition-style cocktail bars still make for a fun night out in Scottsdale. Grab reservations at one of the following speakeasies in Scottsdale to sip on inventive cocktails in a swanky setting (if you can manage to find each hidden establishment’s discreet entrance, that is!).

Top Speakeasies in Scottsdale for a Fun Night Out

1. Tell Your Friends

A dimly lit bar interior with warm amber lighting and red lamps along the bar counter.
  • Address: 17797 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85255
  • Hours: Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday (5 PM – 11 PM), Friday & Saturday (5 PM – 1 AM), Monday & Tuesday (Closed)

Located in North Scottsdale, Tell You Friends is a dazzling speakeasy that reflects the high-end luxury and sophisticated glitz and glamour of the 1920s. This hidden bar is located beneath The Americano, just north of Kierland Commons, and can be reached via two flights of stairs.

The menu features signature cocktails, martinis, wines by the glass and bottle, and spirits, alongside small plates that include a meat and cheese board, oysters, and a shrimp cocktail. While sipping your drink, enjoy live jazz performances on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evenings. Chic cocktail attire is required, and a reservation is highly recommended — this popular spot books out a month in advance, so secure your table as early as possible!

2. The Madam

  • Address: 7700 E McCormick Pkwy, Scottsdale, AZ 85258
  • Hours: Wednesday to Saturday (5 PM – 12 AM), Sunday – Tuesday (Closed)

Located at The Scottsdale Resort & Spa, which has recently undergone a renovation to expand its high-end amenities and dining experiences, The Madam is a hidden bar situated behind a bookshelf in The Social Boardroom, offering an atmosphere of old-world allure reminiscent of the Prohibition Era.

The Madam specializes in a small menu of artisanal cocktails and light bites, including miniature crab cakes, bacon-wrapped dates, and truffle parmesan fries. The small, dimly lit space only seats eight guests at a time, so reservations are recommended to secure a seat at this Scottsdale speakeasy.

3. The Goose

A shelf filled with various bottles of liquor, including whiskey, gin, and tequila.
  • Address: 8300 N Hayden Rd, F102, Scottsdale, AZ 85258
  • Hours: Sunday to Thursday (4 PM – 10 PM), Friday & Saturday (4 PM – 12 AM)

The Goose is an authentic speakeasy in McCormick Ranch, named after a tradition from the Prohibition Era. During the 1920s, speakeasies were often hidden and named after animals to signal them as safe places for drinking. The team at this speakeasy in Scottsdale decided to name their covert bar after the geese that are frequently spotted around the nearby Marguerite Lake at McCormick Ranch.

The Goose offers an extensive list of classic cocktails and craft cocktails, as well as red and white wines, and liquor flights featuring bourbon, scotch, whiskey, and tequila. You can also order food and shareables for the table, including fried calamari, charcuterie boards, light pizzas, and desserts.

4. Straight Up

  • Address: 5105 N Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85250
  • Hours: Monday to Sunday (7 PM – 12 AM)

Located inside Hotel Adeline, with a discreet entrance inside a vintage telephone booth, Straight Up is one of the best speakeasies in Scottsdale where you can enjoy inventive cocktails, high-end whiskeys, and sultry vibes (if you can figure out the password to get inside, of course!).

Straight Up is, first and foremost, a whiskey bar known for its extensive list of bourbon, whiskey, rye, and scotch. However, the menu also features a wide selection of classic cocktails, made with a variety of liquors, including vodka, tequila, gin, and rum. Straight Up also offers customizable whiskey flights, wines by the glass and bottle, and light bites, including baked brie, pretzel bites, and a hummus plate.

5. Poppy’s Office

A bartender holding a craft cocktail garnished with a blackberry and tiny vial of liquid.
  • Address: 34422 N. Scottsdale Road, #160, Scottsdale, AZ 85266
  • Hours: Tuesday to Thursday (4 PM – 10 PM), Friday & Saturday (4 PM – 11 PM), Sunday & Monday (Closed)

Located in North Scottsdale, on the edge of Cave Creek, Poppy’s Office is a unique speakeasy adjacent to Liberty Station, paying tribute to Paul Keeler, founder of the Keeler Hospitality Group. His sons and wife designed this speakeasy as a replica of Paul’s own office, complete with family photos and treasured memorabilia, to keep his legacy alive.

Unlike other speakeasies in Scottsdale that emphasize high-end sophistication, Poppy’s Office has a cozy, inviting vibe. The menus are printed on loose-leaf paper, the bar is reminiscent of a vintage desk, and guests can book “appointments” (reservations) to meet with the expert mixologists, who serve inventive cocktails, wine, beer, and light bites.
