Before attending the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, read through this guide to uncover the event’s history and learn important information about the event, including highlights of the show, insider tips, and where to stay in Scottsdale for quick access to this beloved event.
History of the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona

The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show was established in 1955 after the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona hosted its first show at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. The Arabian Horse Association of Arizona is a non-profit organization comprised of Arabian horse owners, breeders, and enthusiasts worldwide.
However, Scottsdale’s history with Arabian horses dates back even further than the first show in the 1950s. Several Arabian horse owners, like Ed Tweed and Helen Wrigley, moved to Scottsdale in the 1940s, establishing large ranches and farms and creating a prestigious reputation for Arabian horse ownership in Scottsdale.
After the first shows, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show moved to a horse facility built at Paradise Park before moving to WestWorld of Scottsdale in 1989 — the show’s permanent home, where it is hosted today. The show has grown from 50 to 2,500 horses, attracting top owners, trainers, and breeders worldwide as the world’s largest Arabian horse show.
Proceeds from the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show benefit a range of local and global charities, including the Arabian Horse Foundation, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Healing Hearts Animal Rescue and Refuge, Youth for Troops, Horses Help, We Love Arabian Horses, and more!
