7 Best Golf Courses in Scottsdale

Things To Do | January 18, 2023 | SWSS Staff

Scottsdale is well-known for its luxury resorts, fabulous shopping, and sunny weather. However, there is something else Scottsdale, AZ, is highly acclaimed for that draws visitors from around the world to visit this desert city — championship golf courses!

Greater Phoenix is home to 200+ well-maintained golf courses with granite boulders, towering cacti, and desert views. With plenty of Scottsdale golf courses to choose from, it’s easy to find a course (or two) to play a few rounds of desert golf during your trip to Scottsdale.

Top Scottsdale Golf Courses

Check out these best golf courses in Scottsdale, AZ — the top golf destination in the United States — for a few memorable rounds of desert golf during your time in Greater Phoenix.

1. Troon North Golf Club

Troon North Golf Club, designed by Tom Weiskopf, is one of the premier golf clubs in the Greater Scottsdale area. With two courses, the Pinnacle Course and Monument Course, situated underneath Pinnacle Peak in the Sonoran Desert, the beautiful scenery is sure to impress you just as much as the immaculately-groomed fairways and challenging layouts of each golf course at Troon North.

2. TPC Scottsdale

Chances are, you’ve already heard about TPC Scottsdale — after all, it’s where the Greatest Show on Grass, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, is played each year on the PGA Tour. The Stadium Course was redesigned by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish in 2014, and since then, it has become a popular course where both professional and amateur golfers can play and still have a great time.

However, lesser known than the Stadium Course, the Champions Course is another excellent course just across the street that is less expensive and more walkable. You should consider booking a tee time at both during your visit to Scottsdale.

3. Grayhawk Golf Club

Grayhawk Golf Club is a famous club in the McDowell Mountains that offers two of the best courses in Scottsdale — the Raptor Course and the Talon Course, designed by Tom Fazio. On the latter course, the back nine holes are built around a series of deep box canyons, making accuracy on this course a welcome challenge for experienced golfers in Scottsdale, Arizona.

4. Quintero Golf Club

Quintero Golf Club is easily one of Scottsdale’s best public golf courses. The course features generous landing areas with strategically-placed bunkers behind where wandering tee shots will land. Rees Jones, the original designer, is known for creating pristine courses with some of the best playing conditions in Scottsdale, making this a perfect destination for golfers of all experience levels.

5. We-Ko-Pa Golf Club

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is situated in the Sonoran Desert on the Ak-Chin Indian Reservation and offers two golf courses to choose from — the Saguaro Golf Course and the Cholla Golf Course.

Unlike other golf courses in the area, We-Ko-Pa isn’t surrounded by any residential or commercial buildings, so it’s just you, the tee, wide-open fairways, and the surrounding mountains. If you and your friends and family are looking for a quiet place to play golf, these courses designed by Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore, and Scott Miller are sure to please!

6. Boulders Golf Club

Located at the Boulders Resort & Spa, the Boulders Golf Club is a semi-private club with two golf courses — the North Golf Course and the South Golf Course. The Boulders Resort is located in Carefree, Arizona, and is surrounded by spectacular views, including towering rock formations and saguaro cacti. Jay Morrish designed both courses at the Boulders Golf Club, and the resort offers a certified caddy to enhance your game at the course.

7. Talking Stick Golf Course

Also designed by Bill Coore and Bill Crenshaw, the Talking Stick Golf Club at Talking Stick Resort is situated on the River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Located right in the heart of Scottsdale, this fabulous course is the perfect place to book a tee time if you want to play a great game of golf during the day and an equally great game of poker at night.
